Idioms

hit the road = to begin a journey
I usually hit the road before 7 a.m. in order to avoid the peak hour traffic.

hitch a ride = travel in someone else's vehicle
If I miss the bus, I'll sometimes hitch a ride home with a colleague.

run the risk = be in danger
Commuting by MRT takes more time, but I know exactly what time I'll arrive. On the other hand, if I drive, I run the risk of getting stuck in a trafic jam, and it's not certain what time I'll arive.
